Finding Connection

Updated: May 30, 2023

We all need to interact in some way within the communities we live, be it online or in real time. With that interaction we communicate. Imagine if what we communicated was as effective as we wanted it to be, mostly every time! (Let's face it, we are not going to get it right everytime.)

My blog is going to focus on community, connection and communication. And how we fit into it all that messy relationship stuff. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Connecting with others

In our busy and increasingly online lives, it is not always the easy to connect with others even when we want to. When we live alone it can be even more challenging.

Real time spaces

Start to take notice:

  • When going on our usual travel routes

  • Within our interest groups

  • People who live near us

  • Others using the same facilities

We can find 'friends' in some unlikely places. See below for a true story when I dared to step out of my comfort zone.

Asking for a friend

At the time I was parenting two young children on my own, had recently moved to a new city and desperately needed a friend. One day I 'prayed' (sent out a hope filled thought) 'I need a friend'. It was as simple as that, but completely heartfelt.

I went to a popular local playground and as the children were playing, I looked over and saw a woman and thought, 'that's her'.

Summoning up some courage I started a conversation. It turned out, she had 'prayed' the same thing that very same day! We agreed to meet again, and in fact built a friendship that lasted until she moved away. During the time we knew each other, we both met a need we had. The need to build connection with another person experiencing similar things while being with small children all day.

It's not easy to step out of our comfort zone, but sometimes we need to to get our needs met. I hope this short story encourages you to find connection either in person or online.
